Matt Ward survived two tough matches on a warm, windy day at the Jamestown Country Club. He survived a slow start and finished strong on the back nine to claim his first Elks Labor Day golf tournament title on Monday. “It was tough going,” said Ward, a former general manager at the country club. “The weather conditions were tough. Elks Lodge to hold its annual picnic
The Elks Lodge will be holding its annual picnic at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Picnic grounds. Hamburgers, hotdogs, salads, snowcones and watermelon will be served. Many games are planned for children and bingo games for adults with prizes. El Zagal clowns will be there with their clown truck to give children rides. The Class AAA state amateur baseball tournament got off to a rough start for Erik Scott and the Jamestown Elks. The finish, however, was nearly perfect — literally. The Elks lost their opener Friday night 2-1 to the Mayville Redcaps, only to reel off four straight wins to capture their first AAA crown since 2005. After going 1-8 with a double in the Elks’ first two games, Scott — the recently graduated all-Dakota Athletic Conference outfielder from Mayville State — had hits in 11 of his last 12 at bats and mixed in a three-hit shutout in the first of two wins over the three-time defending champion Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants.August 18, 2009

Elks win Great Plains League tournament
The Jamestown Elks won the Great Plains League Tournament on Saturday at Jack Brown Stadium by defeating the Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants 8-7 in an 11-inning championship title tilt. The Elks’ Jeremy Newman smacked a walk-off, two-run double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th frame to give the Elks the victory. The Merchants broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the 11th and took a 7-4 lead into the bottom half, setting up Newman’s heroics. Newman ended the game going 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs.By Sun Staff , August 03, 2009

The Jamestown Elks continued their sparkling season with a 5-2 win over the Jamestown Tarno Tigers on Tuesday night at Jack Brown Stadium. James Castle went the first five on the mound for the 29-3 Elks before Ryan Iliff fired four scoreless frames, striking out six Tarno batters in the process to earn the save.July 29, 2009
