Pippen and Malone were inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday, recognized as individuals and as part of the Dream Team.

Cinderella with spikes: 1958 Drayton Legion to be inducted into NDSHOF

Long before “Hoosiers” made nearly $30 million on the big screen, North Dakota had its own version of the famed basketball underdogs, only in baseball. Fifty-two years ago the 1958 Drayton American Legion baseball team bucked Class B and challenged into Class A, where they won the Eastern Division and then the state tournament here in Jamestown. They beat Fargo, Grand Forks and Jamestown in the division tournament, before going 3-0 at McElroy Park, with wins over Williston and two against the home team. That 1958 team will be in Jamestown again this weekend when they’re inducted into the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame.

Former Giant Taylor charged with rape

Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was charged Thursday with rape for having sex with a 16-year-old runaway forced into prostitution by a man who had beaten her up, police said. Taylor, a 51-year-old former New York Giants star who has faced drug and tax evasion charges in the past, paid the girl $300 for sex in a Holiday Inn, where he was arrested early Thursday, said Christopher St. Lawrence, supervisor of the town of Ramapo.

JC inducts three to Alumni Hall of Fame

The Jamestown College Alumni Association announces three individuals have been selected for induction into the Jamestown College Alumni Hall of Fame for 2010. Bruce Berg, Jamestown; Rodney Melgard, Pinole, Calif.; and Seattle Sutton, Marseilles, Ill., will be recognized at a dinner in their honor on Friday, and during the commencement ceremony on Saturday.

Former Hornet, Jimmie wrestler Lemer honored

Former Harvey and Jamestown College standout wrestler Brandon Lemer will be inducted into the North Dakota High School Wrestling Hall of Fame on Saturday at the state tournament in Fargo. Lemer is a two-time state champion for the Hornets, winning the 215-pound title in 1999 and 2000, while earning Inter-Mat’s High School All-American honorable mention status.

Dawson HOF-bound; Former Twin Blyleven comes up just short

Before going back home, he took a detour from his usual routine on the day Hall of Fame voting is announced. “I went by a cemetery to visit my mom and also my grandmother,” he said. “It’s the first time I had done that. I just felt a little bit more optimistic about this year, and I just wanted to share a few things at that grave site. It meant a lot to me to get out there.”
