JHS Choir picked as Governor's Official State Choir

Gov. John Hoeven today announced that the Jamestown High School Choir and the Lewis and Clark Berthold High School Senior Band have been selected to serve as the 2008-2009 Governor’s Official State Band and Chorus. Both organizations will perform during the joint session of the 61st North Dakota Legislative Assembly Jan. 6 in Bismarck.

Former N.D. first lady to host high teas

A series of “high teas” hosted by former North Dakota first lady Grace Link will be held at the Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site in Bismarck on select Mondays and Tuesdays this summer, from 2 to 3 p.m. The dates for the events are June 24, July 14 and Aug. 5. The cost of the tea party is $5 per person. Preregistration is required for each “high tea,” as space is limited. To preregister, call Marilyn Snyder at 701-328-2792. Those interested need to specify the date they will be attending.

Tied at the top

Bismarck Century teammates Kavin Dvorak and Peter Pomonis have the Patriots in the hunt for a state Class A golf title. The Century pair each shot 1-under par 71s on the opening day of the state tournament at damp and cool Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson. The Patriots and defending Class A champs Fargo South are deadlocked after the opening day after each teams finished at 301.

The season came to an end in conspicuous fashion for the Jamestown High School girls’ soccer team on Friday. Bismarck St. Mary’s scored on two penalty kicks, and their third thanks to a free kick, overcoming a strong-second half from the Blue Jays in loser-out action at the state tournament in Bismarck.

Wilson resigns post as Fargo South coach

Longtime Fargo South boys hockey coach Dean Wilson has resigned to take an assistant principal job at a local middle school. Wilson was head coach of the Bruins for 18 seasons. He guided South to state championships in 1994, 1999 and 2006.

One more time

Getting to the state tournament is nothing new for Rachel Newton, Kayla Schmeichel, Jesika McCauley, Ciara McPherson, Shelbie Hartmann and Brittany Sanders. In fact, Newton, Schmeichel, McCauley and McPherson will be making their fourth straight trip to state as varsity regulars this weekend. Going out with a bang would be ideal, but will not come easy with a first-round match against Fargo South tonight at 5 p.m. in Bismarck.
