Letter to the editor: United States needs a comprehensive energy policy
I’m responding to Tom Magin letter published Dec. 14 in The Jamestown Sun concerning federal cap-and-trade legislation. I oppose Waxman-Markey, the cap-and- trade bill now before Congress, as well as a recent Environmental Protection Agency ruling concerning carbon dioxide regulation. In fact, I testified against the cap-and-trade bill before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works last July.By Gov. John Hoeven , December 30, 2009

Letter to the editor: Lawmakers need to balance existing budget first
I would like to address some of my concerns within our government. My first question is, who wrote the stimulus bill, the cap and trade bill and the government-run health care bill? No sooner were these topics brought up when a bill consisting of hundreds and even a thousand pages were on the lawmakers’ desks to be voted on.By Linda DeMars, Neche, N.D. , September 12, 2009

Letter to the editor: Writers were pushing lies about labor legislation
Dave MacIver, Keith Hovland and the North Dakota Chamber of Commerce are at it again, railing against the Employee Free Choice Act, and with more of the same mistruths and, unfortunately, lies. In their letter, published July 25 in The Jamestown Sun, these gentlemen paraded out one huge whopper. They stated that a business could be fined, “should one person interpret management communications as ‘coercive.’ And yet, the act offers no restrictions or checks on anything the unions might say...” Shame on you, both, for telling this fib to the fine people of North Dakota.By Scott Nelson , July 27, 2009
