N.D. lawmaker: Blue Cross letter may spur bill
A North Dakota state senator says recent Blue Cross Blue Shield opposition to some aspects of health care reform may prompt a response in the Legislature.December 04, 2009
BCBS letter about reform costs sparks criticism
A letter Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota is sending to its members about the possible cost of health care reform is drawing criticism from reform proponents. The Blues are sending letters to members detailing possible impacts of health reform pending before Congress could bring, including premium increases.By By Patrick Springer, Forum Communications Co. , November 18, 2009
Letter to the editor: Public option is needed for health care reform
My wife and I appreciated Charles Linderman’s letter. Only a person who has his/her head in the proverbial sand would say this country has the best health care system in the world while not mentioning it is also the most expensive — 50 percent more than the next most costly country. One example: our infant mortality rates rank us 29th while, on the other end of life, citizens of many other countries live longer. On the cost side: since 1999, employment-based health insurance premiums have increased 120 percent, out-of-pocket medical costs 115 percent, inflation “only” 44 percent and wages 29 percent.By Maury Reyerson and Anna Klarowicz, St. Cloud, Minn. , August 29, 2009
Letter to the editor: Illegal immigrants should never get free health care
The health care debate has been front page news for quite some time. The emotions unleashed by this debate speak to the concern of all Americans about this subject. We have heard and read about conflicting opinions as to what is in the actual bill. There is one issue that does not seem to be talked about, but is very important.By Pam Younggren, Fargo , August 24, 2009
Letter to the editor: Foolish spending may have been target of protesters
Complaining about taxes? After reading James Jungroth’s letter I was shocked that former Sen. Milton Young had earmarks in the latest proposed bills that were actually for the flooded people of the North Dakota.By Eric Lien , July 18, 2009
Letter to the editor: Real cost will come from ignoring climate change
Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., mortgaged our future in favor of political expedience with his recent vote against H.R. 2454 (aka the American Clean Energy Security Act of 2009). This bill aimed at accelerating the development of renewable energy while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions that all of the leading national scientific academies in the western world have warned are leading to climate instability.By Joe Richardson , July 18, 2009
Letter to the editor: Dorgan is doing well to create transmission lines
There is much conversation these days regarding North Dakota electricity transmission, because our state produces a lot of energy that’s needed in other parts of the county. More energy transmission capabilities would mean more economic development in our state.By Bruce Hagen, Bismarck , July 11, 2009

The effort by letter carriers represented by the NALC, with the help of rural letter carriers, other postal employees, and numerous other volunteers has resulted in delivery of nearly 1 billion pounds of donations to community food banks and pantries over the past 16 years.May 09, 2009
Letter to the editor: Comment about teaching profession all too familiar
I am a teacher and I am proud of my profession. I have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of children. Last month, while at a community dinner with my husband, the conversation turned to the salaries of a local individual. I made the comment that I would love to make that kind of salary some day and that, often, I am discouraged, because no matter how much education I get or how long I work, that kind of a salary seems out of reach.By Alicia D. Letter to the editor: Quiet zone won’t make our city safer
The quiet zone coalition has yet to prove the value of a quiet zone. As a safety professional, I have seen no factual evidence proving quiet zones are safer. During the time Fargo-Moorhead has had the quiet zone, there’s been two serious accidents. There were none in Bismarck, Grand Forks, Minot or even Jamestown. How is that safer?By David Klein , May 04, 2009
Letter to the editor: Quiet zone won’t be cause of rail crossing’s closure
As we prepare for the quiet zone vote on Tuesday, I would like to remind people that the quiet zone is not the reason that the Third Avenue West crossing will be closed. The crossing will be closed whether or not the quiet zone vote passes. The city leaders have already decided that.By Joel Piehl , May 04, 2009
Letter to the editor: Work on infrastructure, not on a new quiet zone
I am bothered by the mindset of the proponents of the quiet zone when they attempt to calm our foreboding with soothing statements that a typical property owner will see only an increase in property taxes of approximately $1 per year for 10 years.By Gene Gossett , May 04, 2009
Letter to the editor: Vote to make Jamestown a quieter, safer place
Now that Gov. John Hoeven has signed the bill for quiet zone funding, Jamestown needs to follow the lawmakers’ lead and vote Tuesday to eliminate the use of train whistles downtown.By Jim Carlascio , May 04, 2009
Letter to the editor: Proposed quiet zone has too many unclear possibilities
I think it is no wonder that there is much opposition to the proposed and soon to be voted on quiet zone at the railroad crossings in Jamestown. I cannot find a single person who knows what these “quiet zones” will be like.By Paul Stuart , May 04, 2009
