Bambas new pastor at St. Paul’s

Bambas new pastor at St. Paul’s The Rev. David Bambas is the new pastor at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1000 Fifth Ave. N.E. He moved here from Elk Point, S.D. Bambas was raised in Tyndall, S.D., graduated from Tyndall High School and worked for CR Industries, Firestone Tire, John Deere and owned an AMOCO Service Station prior to being called to the ministry.

Bambas preaching Sunday at St. Paul’s

The Rev. David Bambas will be preaching his first sermon at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Sunday. He will be preaching at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services. Bambas and his wife, Carla, are arriving in Jamestown this week from Elk Point, S.D., to accept this new assignment. A noon potluck to welcome the Bambas will be held on July 25. St. Paul’s is located at 1000 Fifth Ave. N.E.

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will have a combined service at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The Rev. Gary Ball-Kilbourne will give his last sermon at St. Paul’s on that date.

St. Paul’s women report on activities

St. Paul’s United Methodist Women reported that Love Ribbons were given to the women of the church for Mother’s Day. Betty Brosz, Julie Wayne, Lavina Kleese, Bonnie Ostenson, and Delette Winkelman attended UMW Assembly in St. Louis, Mo., recently. Many of the United Methodist Women are helping to deliver “Meals on Wheels” on the weekends of June, especially on June 27. Many of UMW are helping with Bible school this week.

Medina church to mark anniversary

Emmanuel United Methodist Church will celebrate its 75th anniversary June 13. It will begin the celebration with former Medina pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Oswald, preaching at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. The congregation invites the community and area church families to join in this celebration. The theme for the day is “Rejoice in the Lord!” There will also be a noon meal and a singalong, DVD presentation and refreshment at 1:30 p.m.

Local women attend the United Methodist Women’s Assembly

Local women attend the United Methodist Women’s Assembly United Methodist Women’s Assembly was held in St. Louis, Mo., April 30 May 2. Attending from St. Paul’s United Methodist Church were Betty Brosz, Julie Wayne, Bonnie Ostenson, DeLette Winkelman and LaVina Kleese. The theme was “Faith, Hope, Love in Action” with more than 6,500 women in attendance from across the United States and around the world. Women gathered to worship, learn, serve and witness to the power of women dedicated to mission. More than 50 women attended from the Dakotas Conference who all wore shawls made by Ginny Coates, conference officer, with fabric portraying buffalo.

St. Paul’s holding several events

St. Paul’s United Methodist Women has several events of notice this month. There are focus meetings at Marion on April 10 or April 17 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, for area United Methodist Women. Registration and refreshments are at 8:30 a.m. Register at the Jamestown church office. On Wednesday, Mary Werner will tell her faith story at the church. The group will begin with a light supper at 6 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall.

St. Paul’s men hosting supper

The men of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will host a pancake and all-beef sausage supper today at the church. The meal will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the church, 1000 Fifth Ave. N.E. Tickets are $6 for individuals and $15 per family. Anyone age 6 or younger eats for free.

FUMC forming parents’ network

First United Methodist Church is forming a group called Parent Support Network on April 16. The group will meet monthly to provide an opportunity for parents to come together for mutual support and affirmation. Monthly meetings will vary in format, topic and discussion centering around issues of child rearing for children of all ages.

Methodist Women will meet April 1

First United Methodist Women will meet at the church at 1:30 p.m. on April 1. The program will be given by shepherdess Rita Harris from Valley City. All members are urged to attend. Plans will be made for the Focus meeting on April 17 to be hosted by the church.

Local man’s hobby displayed worldwide

Local man’s hobby displayed worldwide Edward Schlosser farmed the land here for more than 30 years. His woodworking hobby has also lasted more than 30 years with results hanging around the world. Schlosser has created more than 2,000 wooden crosses. The majority about 18 inches high but some are up to 14 feet tall.

Church presenting cantata Sunday

The sanctuary choir of First United Methodist Church will be presenting its annual service of Lessons and Carols on during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday. The service will be based on the cantata, “The Promise of Light,” by Joel Raney.

Brunch set for Methodist women

The United Methodist Women Unit’s Christmas brunch is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. There is no charge for this event. St. Paul’s United Methodist Women is an active unit with 98 members. UMW is a mission-oriented organization with emphasis on women, children and youth.
