Bode falls short in bid for history
Carlo Janka of Switzerland added the Olympic gold medal to his world championship in giant slalom on Tuesday, while Bode Miller failed to finish in his bid for a record fourth men’s Alpine medal.
The 23-year-old Janka led after the first run and had a combined two-leg time of 2 minutes, 37.83 seconds.

Comebacks make for great Olympics stories, and they come in many forms. Just look at what Seth Wescott, Bode Miller and Lindsey Vonn pulled off Monday.
Wescott came to the Winter Olympics as the reigning champion in snowboardcross, yet also as damaged goods. He hurt his leg and pelvis two months ago and it showed in the races since. He opened Monday’s event by finishing 17th of the 32 riders in qualifying, but found his stride to reach the finals.

Volunteers start ringing bell early for Salvation Army
Although the Salvation Army Christmas Campaign doesn’t officially get under way until Friday, the bell is already ringing at County Market.
Maj. Tim Miller said they needed to start a little earlier this year because Thanksgiving falls a week later than in previous years. Plus, the need for funding to cover the Salvation Army’s many programs is greater this year. The goal is to raise $80,000 through its mailing appeal and its kettle campaign.
