Erbes picked for NAIA all-star football game

Jamestown College standout safety Dustin Erbes has been selected to play in the fifth annual NAIA Senior Classic in Salina, Kan., on April 30. Erbes, a two-time All-American for the Jimmies, closed out his career with a Dakota Athletic-Conference leading nine interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

Black Hills State women bounced in quarterfinals

Black Hills State was eliminated from the NAIA national tournament on Saturday in the quarterfinals by Walsh (Ohio), 83-73, in Sioux City, Iowa. The Yellow Jackets, who advanced to the quarterfinals for the third time in four years, led 38-27 at halftime, but were outscored 56-35 over the final 20 minutes.

Banner day for Skipper

Banner day for Skipper Sarah Skipper keeps pushing her ceiling higher. The Jamestown College senior standout placed second in the pentathlon on Thursday at the NAIA National Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio. Skipper shattered her own school record by 108 points, which she set two weeks ago at the Dakota Athletic Conference meet. Her second-place finish of 3,644 earned her All-American honors for the first time. “She really excelled,” said JC women’s coach Jim Clark. “She never took an event off. She was excellent in everything.”

Morningside beats Hawks

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — For the third consecutive year, the Dickinson State football team’s season ended in the first round of the NAIA playoffs. Morningside freshman quarterback Jordan Jacupke threw three touchdown passes and running back Mike McNulty rushed for two more as the seventh-ranked Mustangs advanced to the quarterfinals with a 38-17 victory over the ninth-ranked Blue Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Elwood Olsen Stadium. The Mustangs’ offense put DSU in a hole early.

Church earns top NAIA award

Church earns top NAIA award Jamestown College center fielder Erik Church has been named to the 2010 NAIA All-American baseball team. Church, a senior from Federal Way, Wash., capped his stellar 2-year run with the Jimmies by leading the team in virtually every offensive category. He was named to the second team. Church batted a robust .466, collecting 89 hits in 191 at bats. He finished the regular season hitting over .500.

Conlon, Bossler advance Katie Conlon won her heat of the 3000 steeplechase and teammate Alyssa Bossler came in third as both qualified for the finals at the opening day of the NAIA national meet in Marion, Ind. The two Jamestown College distance runners were the only advancers out of the prelims for Jamestown College on Thursday.

Jimmies’ ride comes to an end

Jamestown College entered the NAIA national tournament as one of the top hitting teams in the country. But in Oklahoma City, things just didn’t click. That was the case again on Thursday as the Jimmies were eliminated by Northwestern (Iowa) 5-2. The Jimmies, who scored nearly 10 runs per game during the season, were held to just 10 total in their three games at Jim Wade Stadium.

The NAIA announced the Jamestown College baseball team will be among the 46-team field at the national tournament, which will be played May 18-21 at nine different sites. The Jimmies will find out who they play today when the seedings are announced.

Curry records season-best time

It was the last chance to qualify for the NAIA Meet for some and a warm-up for others as the Jamestown College track and field team took a few athletes to the Blue Hawk Last Chance meet in Dickinson. The Jimmies didn’t qualify any new athletes but there were some good showings, providing JC with some optimism before the national meet.
