The Minnesota Twins aren’t a power-hitting team. Still, they’ve found plenty of ways to get ‘em over and get ‘em in this season.
They finished a three-game sweep of Washington on Thursday with another clutch-hitting lesson for the Nationals.
Kevin Slowey won his second straight start since his worst outing of the year, Justin Morneau had three RBIs, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Washington Nationals 11-2 Wednesday.
Carlos Gomez again got the Twins going from his leadoff spot, bunting for two of his three singles, scoring two runs and driving in a run for insurance in the seventh inning. He barely beat out a bunt in the first, took second on Aaron Boone’s throwing error and eventually scored on Morneau’s sacrifice fly.
As the hits kept piling up on him at a rate not seen in nearly 30 years, a frustrated Livan Hernandez simply couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
So the savvy veteran went to work, throwing more than 100 pitches in a bullpen session that lasted more than an hour on Saturday, trying to fix his mechanics and regain his location.
