City revises snow policy

The City Council’s Public Works Committee Tuesday approved revising the city snow policy to impose a parking ban for snow removal on emergency routes. City Engineer Reed Schwartz-kopf said the parking ban was only one of two suggestions to come out of a debriefing on last winter’s snow removal. Asked if an on-street parking ban could be instituted throughout the city for snow removal, he said the Public Works Department prefers to start with this.

Letter to the editor: Parking becomes an issue when it’s time to clear snow

This winter we have a great number of opportunities to get off our duffs and move snow from our sidewalks and driveways. I take it as an anti-obesity campaign that shows no end in sight. Yay for shovels! And “Yay” for snowplows because I can’t imagine having to shovel the street too — yikes! Unfortunately the plows get a bad rap, especially when we’re digging the car out from the curb for the 10th time this winter.

GF officials crack down on parking

Grand Forks officials are considering a crackdown on delinquent parking fees in the city’s downtown. A city report said 22 businesses owe more than $30,000 in parking assessments. The report said “some businesses have chosen not to pay their parking assessments, confident the city cannot collect.”
