Jamestown Public School Board approves going ahead with plan
The Jamestown Public School Board approved Monday moving forward with a refinancing option that could save taxpayers about $2.5 million. Under the proposed plan, the School Board would sell refinanced bonds for the Jamestown High School and Middle School project. The plan would knock off four years of payments, said Myron Knutson, who advises schools on bond issues and indebtedness. So, the bonds would be paid off in 2017 as opposed to 2021. Taxpayers would save about $2.5 million. The current debt is about $13.5 million.February 16, 2010

Letter to the editor: Providing universal health care can help our economy
Change can be tough. We are afraid the unknown might be worse than the known. Google “World’s 10 Largest Exporters” and you see Germany is the world’s largest exporter in value of goods. China is second, United States third, Japan fourth and France fifth. To exceed the U.S. and China in value of exports, the small country of Germany is doing something right. They also make sure everyone has health care.By Sen. Tim Mathern, Fargo , November 09, 2009

Global Connect being tested today
This has been an interesting week. The early snow caused the movement of the State Soccer Tournament and it created an interesting football game with Fargo South on Friday night. On the other hand, in talking with Coach Cahill, I understand that the senior boys won the first ever snowball fight after practice one night last week. It is always good to create a memory.By Bob Toso, Superintendent, Jamestown Public Schools , October 21, 2009

Other views: Keep public information open to the public
Victims need to know they are safe, the accused need to be assured they are getting a fair trial and residents have the right to know if people are running around causing chaos in their communities. As a news outlet, The Press has the responsibility to inform the public of what is going on, if there is danger, what is being done about those who are breaking the law, and to make sure local law enforcement is on the up and up.By The Dickinson Press , October 02, 2009
