City collects funds from sales tax
The city of Jamestown has already begun collecting its half of the 1 percent sales tax and will use it this year to eliminate the city’s share of special assessments property owners pay. City Administrator Jeff Fuchs said the city began collecting the half cent last spring. So far the collection totals about $334,458. If taxable sales and purchases are any indication, Jamestown appears to be economically sound on almost all fronts, says North Dakota’s top ranking tax official. The first quarter of 2010 compared to 2009 shows an 8.54 percent increase for the Buffalo City in 10 reportable categories.
