JC student’s song N.D. entry

Murika Bauer’s song about looking for God has been selected as North Dakota’s entry in the 2010 John Lennon Scholarship competition. Bauer is a sophomore at Jamestown College. Her song “Anymore” was chosen to go to the national level by the adjudication committee of the North Dakota Music Educators Association. It’s the second consecutive year a JC student’s song has been selected for the competition. Last year, a song by Jessica Johnson of Wannaska, Minn., was chosen.

Jessica Moritz, daughter of David and Brenda Moritz, Jamestown, has been awarded a Valley City (N.D.) State University Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year. Jessica Moritz will graduate from Jamestown High School in 2010.

FCCU offers college scholarship

First Community Credit Union is offering 10 $1,000 scholarships for first-year students at a college or trade school of their choice. Applicants, parents or guardians must be a member in good standing of FCCU for at least one year. Scholarship applications are available at all FCCU branches or on its Web site at www.firstcommunitycu.com. The application deadline is March 19.

Visser receives $500 scholarship

Austin Visser of Spiritwood received a $500 scholarship from the American Welding Society as a sophomore award. Austin attends Dawson Community College, Glendive, Mont. He is double-majoring in welding and farm and ranch management. He also competes for the Buccanneers in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s Big Sky Region.

Steinmetz, Eppen given scholarships

Sydney Steinmetz, Jamestown, and Becky Eppen, Edgeley, N.D., were recipients of $500 scholarships to help with their nurses training at Jamestown College. The scholarships are for two years and were presented by Jamestown 40 & 8 Voiture 688 to two junior students.

Steele awarded Mayville scholarship

Cierra Steele, a senior at Pingree-Buchanan High School, has been awarded the Freshman Honor Scholarship from Mayville (N.D.) State University. The scholarship is offered to freshmen students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance in high school.

Zonta to award $300 scholarship

Applications for the 2010 Young Women in Public Affairs Award are now available from the Zonta Club of Jamestown by contacting Laurel Haroldson. The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing a young woman’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.

Lacey Schumacher, daughter of Randy and Melissa Schumacher of Jamestown, was awarded the MNCAR scholarship for real estate at St. Cloud (Minn.) State University. The award was for $2,500. Schumacher is a junior majoring in real estate.

JC awards science scholarships

Jamestown College has awarded the Melvin R. Arnold Scholarship to two high school seniors. Brandy Schimelfenig, Harvey, N.D., and Kristi Thorwick, Maplewood, Minn., were selected among students participating in an on-campus interview and examination process in November. The scholarship is valued at $10,000 over four years.

Gohner receives scholarship

Maurices has announced that 18 students across the country have been awarded a scholarship because of their hard work and dedication. The Dressbarn Scholarship Program was developed back in 1996 and has given scholarships to more than 350 children of associates at Dressbarn and Maurices brands. This benefit is funded by the Jaffe Family Foundation and Dressbarn Inc.
