Retailers roll out sales as snow hits East Coast
ATLANTA (AP) — An East Coast snowstorm put a damper on after-Christmas shopping Sunday. But shoppers across the rest of the country searched clearance racks and spent gift cards in the afterglow of the best holiday season for retailers since 2007.December 26, 2010

Letter to the editor: Support local businesses or else we’ll lose them all
I write in response to Linda Brown’s (not me) Nov. 13 letter about shopping out of town. Anyone who knows me would agree that I enjoy shopping more than most.By Linda Renae Brown , November 30, 2010

Letter to the editor; Show positive support for businesses in Jamestown
Shopping and entertainment choices have changed in Jamestown over the years, just like everything else. One thing hasn’t changed — our tendency to unfairly compare our unique and wonderful community to Fargo, Bismarck and other larger communities.November 23, 2010
Letter to the editor: Unique gifts and shopping are available in Jamestown
I read the letter to the editor from Linda Brown justifying shopping outside of Jamestown. One of her reasons was there are no unique stores in Jamestown. Apparently she has never been to Attitudes 4 U, The Mustard Seed, The Garden Gate, Gifts from the Heart or Dakota Belts and Moccasins. I have had some very unique framing done at Photo Frame (Carroll Wentland is the best). The local artists have a store at Frontier Village. Framed photographs by John Steiner make great gifts. The local crafters will be having booths at the Buffalo Mall along with Dakota-made items. I have recently been to the Big R store and Tractor Supply Company, both carrying interesting gift ideas. You can order personalized items at Dauer Trophies, Orriginals or Wild Side Creations. I have yet to even talk about the new Mac’s hardware store, Stutsman Harley-Davidson, White Drug or White’s Home Decor.By Marilyn Teckenburg , November 19, 2010
Letter to the editor: Letter was right about going to Fargo to go shopping
I have to agree 100 percent with Carol Sahr’s Nov. 8 letter, “There are lots of chances for shopping in Fargo.”By Linda Brown , November 13, 2010
Annual battle over holiday sales opens for American stores
NEW YORK — From free shipping from Walmart to Sears stores open on Thanksgiving for the first time, the battle for holiday shoppers’ dollars has begun in earnest. The early competition to break through shoppers’ caution about spending promises savings for those willing to buy amid an economy that’s still worrying many. It also promises convenience. Retailers are offering deals anytime, anywhere their customers want, through websites, smart phones and Facebook.By By Anne D’Innocenzio, The Associated Press , November 12, 2010
Letter to the editor: There are lots of chances for shopping in Fargo
I agree with the letter from Bob Woodward. Gas prices are much higher here than in Fargo. I also have recently spent time in Fargo.By Carol Sahr , November 08, 2010
Shoppers hand retailers Easter cash
Shoppers are finally coming out of hibernation. Better weather and an earlier Easter enticed Americans to shell out for spring clothes in March, the fourth straight month of gains for retail sales. Target, Macy’s, Gap and the parent of Victoria’s Secret all beat Wall Street expectations.April 09, 2010
Shoppers keep registers humming
Confidence is growing that the economic recovery won’t fizzle out. Consumers kept cash registers humming last month at a decent pace, pointing to modest and steady economic gains ahead. The Commerce Department reported Monday that consumers boosted their spending by 0.3 percent in February, marking the fifth straight monthly gain.March 30, 2010
Letter to the editor: Snow removal, shopping campaign impact area
Snow removal and Jamestown’s “Strive for Five” movement have appeared lately in different stories but in truth, they should be addressed together. Both are issues that have an economic impact on our area. Shopping is fairly straight-forward. People choose to shop one place rather than another for only a few simple reasons: good selection and service, low prices, good quality and an experience that is fun, interesting, and convenient. What is important to each person differs but it boils down to this: shoppers know what they want, they want it cheap and fast, and they don’t want to work too hard to get it.By James Nyland , February 16, 2010
