No cause has been determined for a fire that destroyed an empty cabin owned by Kurt Eddy on Spiritwood Lake on Sept. 4, said Jason Falk, detective for the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office.

Dorgan to speak at Spiritwood School

Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., will be the featured speaker at the Democrats’ annual District 12 and 29 pork supper at Spiritwood School on Sunday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Also speaking will be Joe Aronson, the new Dem-NPL executive director, and Ellen Linderman, Carrington, N.D., first lady Michelle Obama’s guest at the president’s recent speech to both houses of Congress.

Biomass refinery being discussed

In what could result in a biomass ethanol refinery in the Spiritwood Industrial Park, local and state agencies and business officials met in Jamestown for two days to discuss the project with the partners. Great River Energy hosted the meeting Monday and Tuesday to court representatives of Minnesota company Otoka Energy and Inbicon A/S, a Danish company, into building a biomass ethanol refinery in the Spiritwood Industrial Park.

GRE boosting workers at plant site

In an effort to get as close to its original schedule as possible, construction officials at Great River Energy’s $276 million power plant near Spiritwood are adding another 120 workers. Already at the 500 mark, Dennis Pozarnsky, GRE’s construction site manager, said Friday in a telephone interview that within weeks a total of 620 workers will be on site.

Hoeven meets with DOE

Gov. John Hoeven was in Washington, D.C. Wednesday urging the U.S. Department of Energy to support North Dakota renewable and traditional energy projects, including support for Great River Energy’s proposed expansion at Spiritwood Station near Jamestown. “The State of North Dakota is already investing in these projects, and today we’re in Washington to seek Department of Energy participation and support for them, as well,” Hoeven said. “Consistent with our Empower North Dakota strategy, the projects we brought to Washington strive to advance all of our energy sectors together, creating good jobs in our state and more energy for our nation.”

Cargill Malt of Spiritwood has awarded the Arc of North Dakota a grant of $3,000 toward opening costs of The Arc’s The Arc Treasureland, 1202 12th Ave. S.E., Jamestown in the old Stutsman Harley-Davidson building.
