Union representatives of 1,300 American Crystal Sugar Co. employees have gone to the National Labor Relations Board with accusations that the Red River Valley sugar beet cooperative is not negotiating in good faith on a new contract and is threatening workers with a lockout.
BENGHAZI, Libya — Foreign mercenaries and Libyan militiamen loyal to Moammar Gadhafi tried to roll back the uprising against his rule that has advanced closer to his stronghold in Tripoli, attacking two nearby cities in battles that killed at least 17 people. Members of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades briefly picketed the Jamestown Regional Medical Center construction site Thursday morning. At issue were wages and benefits paid by Jarl Pederson and Sons Painting of Grand Forks, according to Robert Puttre, union spokesman at the scene.
The picket line was removed by 9 a.m. after an apparent settlement was reached, according to Bill Kennedy, marketing director for the Jamestown Hospital.
