Area students are among those named to the fall semester dean’s list at the University of Mary, Bismarck. This includes students in U-Mary’s undergraduate program and in the School of Accelerated and Distance Education.
The University of Mary is officially 50 years old.
The Bismarck-based Roman Catholic university has been holding events all year to celebrate. One last ceremony is focusing on the donation of the property for what began as Mary College, with the placement of crosses around the campus.
The University of Mary’s new men’s basketball coach has experience coaching at the NCAA Division II level, including working as an assistant under the University of North Dakota’s all-time coaching wins leader, Rich Glas.
The federal government has an army of professional responders ready to travel across the country at the drop of a hat to provide assistance in times of dire need. More than 50 of those responders are in Jamestown.
A Federal Medical Station has been set up at the Larsen Center on the Jamestown College campus and another is at the University of Mary in Bismarck.

A Woodworth native and Jamestown College graduate will serve as the first dean of the University of Mary business department. Shanda Traiser has been named to the post created with the formation of the Tharaldson School of Business this fall.
“I’m looking forward to strengthening and growing the Tharaldson School of Business,” Traiser said.
The University of Mary has named a 33-year-old parish priest, the Rev. James Shea, as its new president.
Starting July 1, he will head the Roman Catholic university whose campus is 38 miles from the Hazelton, N.D., dairy farm where he grew up the oldest of eight children.
The University of Mary will present Christmas at Mary, its annual musical celebration of Christmas at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Our Lady of the Annunciation Chapel in the Benedictine Center. There also will be a performance for area junior high school students Friday at noon.
