Elect Hoeven to U.S. Senate
The conventional wisdom regarding the race for U.S. senator from North Dakota is that Republican Gov. John Hoeven will be the landslide winner over Democratic state Sen. Tracy Potter of Bismarck when the votes are counted Nov. 2. There is no sound reason to doubt the conventional wisdom.November 01, 2010

Letter to the editor: North Dakota should have a special session

The majority of states’ legislatures are in session every year.By Jessica Arneson , July 01, 2010
Letter to the editor: Hoeven should meet with western N.D. lawmakers
Gov. John Hoeven, through his spokesperson Don Canton, has dismissed our call for a special session without even a moment of consideration for our points. Canton said the governor said there is no need to go into special session now because the state has already addressed the situation in oil country. Canton promptly discusses $50 million coming from federal leases, but fails to disclose that through a formula in the Flood Control Act, 50 percent must go to schools and 25 percent went to certain townships and only the last 25 percent went to counties.By Rep. Kenton Onstad, Parshall, N.D., Rep. Tom Conklin, Douglas, N.D., Rep. Shirley Meyer, Dickinson, N.D., and Sen. John Warner, Ryder, N.D. , June 25, 2010
Other views: West merits action, if not session
“Consensus” is one indicator of the need for a special session of the Legislature. It’s clearly not present even in western North Dakota, the region that would benefit from such a session. That’s why Gov. John Hoeven is right to say “no” to state lawmakers and others who want a special sessionBy Grand Forks Herald , June 25, 2010
