New sales tax split plan to go before city
Uncomfortable with the polarizing effects on the community of taking half of the 1 percent sales tax and extending the sales tax without a vote, City Council and Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. Board members have devised a new proposal. JSDC Board President Jim Boyd said Councilman Pat Nygaard sat down with him and JSDC Board member Alex Schweitzer to discuss the situation. The idea, Boyd said, was to get to an agreement both parties could live with. “We all agreed this isn’t good for the community,” Boyd said. “We want to be partners in this.”March 19, 2010
Letter to the editor: Instead of attacking JSDC, thank them for development
I write regarding the amount of negative publicity the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. has been receiving. I heard radio personality Shawn Elliot attack the $6 million surplus that the JSDC has accumulated over the past few years. It seems Elliot thinks the sewer, roads or special assessments are more important than economic development.By Eric Lien , March 17, 2010

It’s grand theft of the Jamestown development jobs fund and stealing the next vote on this fund from the taxpayers of Stutsman County by taking $1 million a year through 2022. JSDC changes bylaws
The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. Board voted unanimously Monday to change its bylaws, allowing the City Council to choose its JSDC Board member. The bylaws previously read the designated board member shall be the “Jamestown City Mayor and/or his/her designee.” It will now read “a member of the Jamestown City Council, chosen by the Jamestown City Council.” Bylaws changes do not require approval from the City Council or the Stutsman County Commission.January 12, 2010
Child development screenings available
Parents sometimes wonder: Is my baby keeping up with others his age? Is my toddler developing normally? Is my preschooler learning and growing as she/he should be? Region VI Right Track Program and the James River Special Education Cooperative said parents and other important people in the lives of a child who might have a concern about an area of a child’s development or functioning may make one telephone call and refer the child for a screening. This will allow a trained person, or team, to look at the child’s development and functioning levels compared to others of the same age and assist the family in addressing areas that might need more attention.November 17, 2009
