Driver hits parked car

An Ellendale, N.D., driver struck a parked car in Jamestown Sunday, resulting in $6,000 damage to both vehicles, according to the James-town Police Department.

Ellendale artists display work

The North Dakota Council on the Arts, along with the offices of Gov. John Hoeven and first lady Mikey Hoeven, are exhibiting the works of Ellendale, N.D., area artists at the Capitol Building in Bismarck during January, February and March. Works from Jessica Jenkins, Roberta Johnson, Ruth Redlin, Lana Schlecht, Ken Schmierer, Marlene Rasmussen and Barbara Steinwand are on display in the governor’s ground floor and first floor offices, the first lady’s fourth floor office and the attorney general’s first floor office.

Oakes’ Katie Brademeyer and Leola-Frederick’s Wyatt Sumption were both selected tournament MVP’s following Monday’s conclusion of the Dakota Holiday Basketball Tournament in Ellendale.

Oakes reaches title games

Oakes will be playing for a pair of championships tonight at the Dakota Holiday Tournament in Ellendale. The Tornadoes boys and girls both advanced to the title game with semifinal victories on Saturday at Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse on the campus of Trinity Bible College.

Class B roundup: Oakes takes fifth at tourney

The Northern Cass Jaguars defeated the Maple Valley Raiders 56-51 for third place in the Barnes County Tournament in Valley City on Saturday. The Jaguars were led by Brittany Olson with 19 points.

Ellendale hosting banquet Saturday

The 6th annual Dickey County Pheasants Forever banquet will be held Saturday at the Fireside Steakhouse in Ellendale. A social will be held at 6 p.m. with a dinner and an auction to follow, beginning at 7 p.m.

Schools discuss special education redesign plan

In the seventh special education redesign draft, officials presented a plan that would leave most services and personnel the same, but would cost Jamestown Public Schools about $80,000 more. Jamestown, as well as Medina, Montpelier and Pingree-Buchanan school districts make up the Buffalo Valley Special Education unit. To cut costs and continue its level of service, BVSEU is considering partnering with the Dickey-LaMoure Special Education Unit, which consists of the Edgeley, Ellendale, Kulm, LaMoure and Litchville-Marion districts.

Ellendale man sentenced for child porn

A federal judge has ordered a man to serve 14 years in prison on a child pornography charge, rejecting his family’s pleas for a lighter sentence. Authorities said a search of Faun Durni’s computer found thousands of images of child pornography and more than 100 video files. Durni, 54, of Ellendale, pleaded guilty in June to one count of receiving child pornography.

Arnold will have to wait for record

From no matter which sideline the game was viewed, Ellendale senior running back Nate Arnold had an unbelievable game against the South Border Mustangs in Ashley on Sept. 12. Arnold, who was moved from the fullback position to the tailback position this season, had his way with South Border’s defense, but two different sets of statistics tell two very different stories.

Ellendale improves to 3-0

The Ellendale Cardinals are off to a hot start in the early-going of the 2008 girls’ volleyball season. The Lady Cardinals took down the Milnor Bison in three games on Saturday to improve to a record of 3-0. Ashley Herman had a big day in front of the net for the Cardinals, scoring 22 kills en route to Ellendale’s 25-20, 25-21, 25-19 match victory.

Ellendale rolls past BCN

The gusty winds and the threatening skies didn’t stop the Ellendale Cardinals from running through the Barnes County North Bison in Wimbledon Tuesday night. The North Dakota Class B nine-man football season got underway around the state, and the Cardinals from Region 1 traveled north to take on the Bison from Region 2. Behind a solid running performance by Ellendale’s Nate Arnold, the Cardinals opened up the season with a non-conference 32-6 victory.

Church hosting children’s choir

More than 90 years ago in Northeast India, the Hmar people, a fierce tribe of headhunters, was converted by the word of God into Christians and transformed into Hearthunters. The world-famous India Children’s Choir is made up of the descendants of former headhunters, and they are in America to tell their story.
