Jimmies look to build off last year
The Jamestown College volleyball team had two close calls before last year’s breakthrough.
The Jimmies, after losing in the Dakota Athletic Conference championship two straight years, were finally able to capture the conference crown last season and advance to their first-ever NAIA national tournament.

Final countdown: Jimmies prepare as season quickly approaches
With the season-opener just eight days away, Jamestown College football coach Bud Etzold has a good idea about who will start the season as the team’s quarterback. He just doesn’t want anybody else to know — yet.
Etzold is expected to make the final call after the team scrimmaged Thursday with the top two prospects being senior Brad Lint and junior Tyler Notch. Brady Yrjo also is among the “top 3” Etzold said.

JC readies for school year to begin
Students have begun arriving at Jamestown College, and last-minute preparations for the start of the school year on Aug. 22 have begun.
“Everyone is just super excited,” said Brittany Cochran, a resident assistant majoring in nursing at the college. “You just don’t know what to expect.”
Cochran arrived at the school Tuesday, as did the other members of the soccer team, which started practice Wednesday.

Open arms: Frontier, UMAC possibilites for JC
The two new potential homes for Jamestown College athletics are taking two different approaches.
Jamestown College is considering the Frontier Conference, which like the Jimmies’ current home — the Dakota Athletic Conference — is a member of the NAIA, and the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, an NCAA Division III league. The primary difference between the two is scholarships: the NAIA offers them, Division III does not.

Weighing options: JC considers staying in NAIA, move to NCAA D-III
Jamestown College president Robert Badal says the school plans to make a decision on the future home of its athletics program by the end of the year.
Badal expressed optimism about the options the school is considering.
“Compared to where we were just a year ago, we feel like we’re standing a lot taller,” he said. “There have been a few ups and downs, but overall I have to say I’m optimistic about the options we have in front of us.”
