Pride of Dakota topic at Kiwanis
Sandy Franke introduced Deb Lee, who spoke on Pride of Dakota products at the Dec. 21 noon Kiwanis meeting at the Lantern Room. Lee showed and talked about North Dakota products sold and promoted through the North Dakota Department of Agriculture’s Pride of Dakota.December 29, 2009
Kiwanis holds Christmas program
Sharon Caine was in charge of the annual Christmas program at the Dec. 14 Kiwanis meeting. Caine served treats she’d made from various countries including Norwegian krumkake, Italian sprinkle cookies and German spritz cookies and greeted the club with “Merry Christmas” in several languages. She said many traditions go back before Christianity like evergreens and lighted trees.December 22, 2009
Barnes speaks on art at Kiwanis
Joanne Anderson introduced Taylor Barnes, director of the Arts Center, to speak at the Dec. 7 noon Kiwanis meeting at the Lantern Room. Barnes thanked Chuck and Marlene Axtman for spending Sunday afternoon at the Arts Center hosting and selling tickets for the Christmas Tour of Homes. The attendance was greater and there were more men attending this year, possibly because of the showing of two downtown homes on the tour. The tour was one of many fundraisers for the Arts Center and Barnes said the center will complete projects as the finances are available.December 15, 2009

Sandy Wilhelm introduced Jay Wagner, a Beginning Experience facilitator, to speak at the Nov. 30 noon Kiwanis meeting at the Lantern Room. B.E. is a nondenominational support group for people who have lost a loved one through separation, divorce or death. Many times these people feel left out by their church, uneasy around married friends, unsure of themselves and uncertain about their futures, Wagner said.December 08, 2009
Fitzer presents at Kiwanis
Rich Fitzer, pastor at Trinity Evangelical Church in Jamestown, was the guest speaker at the Nov. 23 Kiwanis meeting. Fitzer’s presentation was on Thanksgiving and he began with reading from Psalms 100. He shared some Thanksgiving history including President Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 declaration of Thanksgiving as a national holiday along with illustrations of being thankful in tough times. He closed with a reminder that all people belong to God and people truly do have much to be thankful for.December 01, 2009
Hoff speaks on art at Kiwanis
Chuck Axtman introduced artist Jeff Hoff to speak at the Nov. 16 Kiwanis meeting at the Lantern Room. Hoff, a customer service agent at Otter Tail Power Co. in Jamestown and Oakes, N.D., related his experience in becoming an artist. Born and raised in Rugby, N.D., Hoff was more interested in hockey and football than anything else. He enjoyed drawing for fun. He didn’t go out for football until after junior college to give himself some growing time while he took basic classes and worked part time.November 24, 2009

Don Bentz introduced James Bekken, New Rockford, president of the District Kiwanis Educational Foundation, to speak at the Nov. 9 noon Kiwanis meeting at the Lantern Room. Galen Rasmussen led the President’s Conference and presented the membership manuals for the new Kiwanis Year at the Oct. 12 noon luncheon meeting at the Lantern Room. He read the six Objects of Kiwanis International that were adopted by the Kiwanis delegates in 1924 and still stand today. They refer to such things as human and spiritual values, the Golden Rule, high social and business and professional standards.October 20, 2009
