I-94 boring comes up again
The Jamestown City Council chose Monday not to stop the application for a state permit to bore under Interstate 94 for a water line to serve the Jamestown Regional Medical Center. The original motion to make the application passed 4-1 at the council’s April Building, Planning and Zoning Committee meeting, with Mayor Clarice Liechty voting against it. Inmate medical costs leap
North Dakota’s county jails spend more than $1.5 million annually on inmates’ medical expenses, and a single seriously ill prisoner can wreak havoc on county budgets, local officials say. Last year, Cass County alone paid almost $110,000 for cancer treatments for a man arrested for a felony charge of terrorizing, documents show. Medical class receives funds
The Jamestown Community Foundation donated $500 to the training skills class which enabled class officials to purchase two wheelchairs and two overbed tables. The class, developed by the Medical Leaders Roundtable, and formed from the JSDC Strategic Plan/Training Center Committee, is co-chaired by Dave Smette and Lisa Hicks. The group developed this 18-hour curriculum which is open to anyone 16 years of age or older interested in becoming a certified nurse’s assistant. The class teaches the basic, hands-on skills needed to challenge that part of the certified nursing assistant test.March 17, 2010

N.D. scientists leave unfinished business
Two veteran University of North Dakota medical school professors who died over the holiday break left behind more than years of expertise. They also left unfinished science projects. Siegfried Detke and Gene Homandberg, both 59, were members of the Grand Forks school’s biochemistry and molecular biology department. Homandberg died on Dec. 21 after a long battle with cancer.
