World record attempt postponed
The region’s extreme cold weather has prompted the Grand Forks Salvation Army to postpone Sunday’s scheduled world record attempt for snow angels. “We don’t want children getting hurt trying to pull off a world record,” said Maj. Ed Wilson, the local commanding officer.By By James R. Johnson, Forum Communications Co. , December 10, 2009
Letter to the editor: Find a place inside stores for those who ring the bell
Who is there first when disaster strikes? The Salvation Army. The weather is terribly cold outside. We put our animals in shelter — it hurts to see these people outside in the wind and cold trying to get donations so they can help someone in need. Have a heart and find a small place indoors out of the cold. It’s Christmas.By Elsie Hieb , December 09, 2009
What we think: Support the kettle campaign

Bells ring for kettle campaign
Bells began ringing around Jamestown over the weekend as the Salvation Army kicked off its annual kettle campaign. The bell-ringing campaign and Christmas appeal mailing constitute the Salvation Army’s major fundraiser of the year. For the 2009 campaign, Maj. Harold Baugh has set a goal of $90,000. He said it was an ambitious goal, but “we served well over 200 families last year and there’s more need out there every year.”November 24, 2009
