Bell-ringing campaign is going well
The generosity of area residents in donating to the Kettle Campaign, the Angel Tree program and food for the pantry is making it a bright Christmas season for the Salvation Army in Jamestown and the families it serves.

More than 240 names on Angel Trees
A couple of days after Thanksgiving, Marna Schulz, branch manager at Unison Bank at the Buffalo Mall, was on her way to work when she spotted this year’s Salvation Army Angel Tree.
Schulz flipped through numerous angels, picked two and thought about how good it feels helping less fortunate families, she said.
“I figure it’s a good thing to help others,” Schulz said.

Mission grows beyond coats for children
For Florence Scherbenske, a member of First United Methodist Church, the mission started with coats for children.
She said a speaker from the Pine Ridge Reservation at a 2008 conference meeting of Methodist women shared the plight of children on Indian reservations in the Dakotas who lacked coats. It wasn’t only dealing with the cold that was a problem.

Food pantry use up
With the recent fire at Cavendish Farms, the temporary closure of McDonalds and current employment shortages the need for food donations in Jamestown is on the rise, say local pantry operators.
“We are always in need of donations and we are also very thankful to receive food donations as well as personal health products,” said Fran Geisler, administrative assistant at the Jamestown Salvation Army.

Baughs return as interim co-administrators
Ever since he was in elementary school, Maj. Harold Baugh knew he wanted to be a man of the church. That church turned out to be the Salvation Army.
Harold and his wife, Maj. Aleene Baugh, are the current interim co-administrators at the Jamestown Salvation Army. They replaced Majs. Tim and Barb Miller in July.

Meals still being provided
The hundreds of volunteers who turned out to help James-town prepare for rising flood waters this spring more than likely tasted some of the support from local organizations.
The Salvation Army and the Red Cross have provided countless meals, snacks and drinks to volunteers and service members keeping Jamestown and the surrounding areas full during the flood fight.
