Electric return at Speedway
After a week off, the electricity — and the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) — returned to Jamestown Speedway on Saturday night.
The NLRA kicked off its Western Tour Championship at the track, bringing a total of 40 late model cars and drivers that represented five states and four Canadian provinces.

Points leaders in good shape with 3 weeks left

There was an uncharacteristically casual atmosphere surrounding Jamestown Speedway on Saturday night.
With no WISSOTA Street Stocks in attendance due to the annual North Dakota Governor’s Stock Car Classic being held at Mandan’s Dacotah Speedway, and with just 10 WISSOTA Modifieds on hand, due in large to the World Modified Dirt Track Championship being held at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., the final checkered flag of the evening in Jamestown was in the air before darkness had set in.

Breaking through: Ben Mickelson picks up his first win of the season at Jamestown Speedway
Jamestown’s Ben Mickelson wasted little time in getting to the front of the 20-lap WISSOTA Modified feature race at Jamestown Speedway on Saturday, en route to the driver’s second career A-mod victory at the track.
Starting on the outside of row No. 2, Mickelson shot to the bottom of the track on the green flag and sailed past Jamestown’s Ryan Fike and the polesitter, Bryce Borgen, of Perley, Minn., climbing to second on the opening lap.

Nelson maintains Streets lead
Jamestown’s WISSOTA Street Stock driver Troy Nelson extended his lead in the point standings at Jamestown Speedway on Saturday, claiming his third feature victory at the track in six races this season.
Nelson has been on a roll the past four weeks, compiling a pair of wins, a third-place run and a seventh at the track, and now holds a 13-point lead over Carrington’s Kelly Hagel in the Street Stock standings with 306 points.

Canadian drivers Mike Balcaen and Ward Imrie took Jamestown Speedway by storm on Saturday night.
Both natives of Winnipeg, Balcaen led 22 of 25 laps to best a field of 23 NLRA Late Models during the tour’s first of two stops at the track this summer, while Imrie survived a total of seven caution flags and held on to win the 20-lap WISSOTA Modified feature.

Hagel shines at Speedway
Kelly Hagel has had a lot of big nights at Jamestown Speedway, but Saturday was one he won’t soon forget.
The veteran Carrington driver earned his first Midwest Modified feature victory, and then turned around just minutes later and brought home a third-place finish in the Street Stocks main event.

Schatz back in Grand Forks tonight
GRAND FORKS — Donny Schatz returns to his racing roots tonight as the World of Outlaws roar into River Cities Speedway for a two-day show. And, not surprisingly, Schatz has returned to the top of the WoO standings.
Schatz, a North Dakota native, is back on top of the WoO standings after a slow start to the season. But the Fargo driver and four-time WoO champion isn’t totally satisfied with his season. He has only one win in WoO events this season, that coming in Ohio.
