Trade gap likely a bad sign

WASHINGTON — A decline in exports and a sharp rise in imports pushed the U.S. trade deficit in June to its widest point since October 2008, raising new concerns about the weakening economic recovery.

Vikings trade 30th pick to Lions

While the Minnesota Vikings wait to hear if Brett Favre will return next season, their fans will have to wait at least another day to find out if they will take a quarterback of the future to eventually replace him. Four hours into the draft on Thursday night, the Vikings traded the 30th overall pick in the first round to division rival Detroit, meaning their first pick of this draft will not come until Friday night.

Growing trade is key to future of this state

A North Dakota trade mission to China returned last week with an agreement to share information between China’s National Energy Administration, which supervises a commercial-scale, coal-to-liquid energy plant, and American Lignite Energy LLC, which is trying to develop a coal-to-liquid operation in North Dakota capable of producing 30,000 barrels of gasoline per day from lignite coal.

AP Source: Eagles want top 42 pick for McNabb

Teams interested in acquiring Donovan McNabb will have to part with a high draft pick to get him. A person familiar with trade discussions involving McNabb told the Associated Press the Philadelphia Eagles will only consider a deal for the six-time Pro Bowl quarterback if it includes a pick among the top 42 in next month’s NFL draft.

The Knicks acquired former scoring champion Tracy McGrady on Thursday in a three-team swap with the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings. The deal left them on the verge of being able to offer two maximum salary contracts to the 2010 free agent class that could be headlined by James. Amare Stoudemire could be in the market for one if he decides to leave Phoenix — where he’ll again finish the season after spending the weeks before the deadline atop the trade rumor mill.

Banged up Blazers deal for Camby

The Portland Trail Blazers are picking up needed help on the interior, acquiring Marcus Camby from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for guard Steve Blake and forward Travis Outlaw. The Blazers are currently in eighth place in the competitive Western Conference despite a litany of injuries. Centers Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla are both out for the season with injuries. All-Star Brandon Roy hasn’t played since Jan. 20 with a hamstring injury.
