Local Boy Scout troop plants trees Black Hills and Meyer spruce now landscape the lawn just east of town, and as they grow, the trees will block snow and winds as well. About a dozen members of Boy Scout Troop 163 planted 265 spruce trees as well as aromatic sumac shrubs near Jamestown’s waste water treatment plant as part of 14-year-old Grant Curtis’ Eagle Scout project.

Sprucing up along highway here: Trees being planted in city The last mile of U.S. Highway 281 in south Jamestown will be greener for future generations as a massive tree planting effort got under way Monday afternoon. Both sides of the highway near the Buffalo Mall from 17th Street Southwest to 37th Street Southwest will be planted with 423 trees, said Paul Sharp, project overseer with Interstate Engineering.

North Dakota is harvesting fewer Christmas trees, in part because more consumers apparently are switching to artificial trees. State Forester Larry Kotchman said the number of Christmas tree growers in the state is down to 10. He expects they will harvest about 5,000 trees this year.
