Wimbledon party celebrates singer Peggy Lee’s legacy
She was a singer, songwriter, actress, artist and still is the pride of North Dakota.
Peggy Lee would have turned 90 years old on Wednesday and this small town where she went to high school remembered her with stories and songs.
More than 80 people showed up for Peggy Lee’s birthday tea party Wednesday afternoon at St. John’s Methodist Church in Wimbledon to swap stories and share memories.

W-C students get pink pancakes
The elementary students at the Wimbledon-Courtenay site of the Barnes County North School District recently celebrated the 100th day of school in a unique way. The teachers cooked 100 pink pancakes, which they served to the students. The pancakes were colored pink to show support to Wimbledon-Courtenay High School senior Erin Christ, who is battling Hodgkins’ lymphoma and in observance of Coaches against Cancer.

Wimbledon also has a football field, basketball court and baseball diamonds, all on the north end of this town of about 200 people. But it’s the tennis courts that have the most fame, as this town shares its name with the world’s most prestigious tennis tournament. A group in North Dakota’s Wimbledon even sells T-shirts to visitors that say something to the effect of “I’ve played tennis at Wimbledon.”
