Drenth shows his newest works in the Daktel lobby
Jamestown’s native son, Brock Drenth, opened his one-man exhibit of new work at the Daktel office headquarters earlier this month. His paintings will be on display for the summer. Because the office is open to the public, he selected pieces that are connected to the area and include local subjects. Drenth’s grouping includes an array of various motifs and painting methods.By Sharon Cox , May 31, 2012

Summer season ideal for starting art classes
Jamestown College on May 5 sent nearly 200 seniors off into the world and will welcome about the same number this fall. But between now and Aug. 27, there will be summer classes in nearly every discipline and art classes are among them. The Arts Center downtown will offer art classes as well, both for adults and children. This is a great time to take advantage of the warm weather to do art outside. And for once in a long time, we are not having to negotiate a levee to get around town.By Sharon Cox , May 10, 2012

Chemistry makes up the colors of spring
We’ve enjoyed record-setting warm weather in March and April. And if the teens in your neighborhood have not already shucked their dark winter jackets for springy, bright T-shirts and shorts, they will soon. The chartreuse green (or Meyer-lemon yellow), grapefruit pink or tangerine orange we’ve started seeing on television and in fashion magazines will be in the citrus mix we see on every street from now to the 2012-13 school year.By Sharon Cox , April 26, 2012

Actors get creative with weapons training
While visiting a South Dakota park over the summer, I witnessed actors in a “shootout” between a “sheriff” and a “gunslinger.” I asked who makes sure people in the audience don’t get hurt, and there was no satisfactory answer. Since then, I’ve been concerned who oversees such events that could be dangerous.By Sharon Cox , March 15, 2012
