The South Carolina Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned a settlement divvying up the multimillion-dollar estate of James Brown, saying a former attorney general didn't follow the late soul singer's wishes in putting together the deal.
FARGO — Back in the 1940s, Dale Brown lived in poverty in Minot, N.D. – where he will always remember welfare workers harassing his mother.
Today in an affluent subdivision of Orlando, Fla., the 75-year-old Brown will step into the 52,000-square foot, lakeside mansion of Shaquille O’Neal.
In the same neighborhood where Tiger Woods lives, O’Neal will hold a news conference to finalize his retirement from the NBA. Brown will be one of the numerous guests Shaq considers his close friends.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Jim Brown, still angry over what he perceives as a slight from Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren, plans to skip this weekend’s ring of honor ceremony.
Brown was a guest speaker at Thursday’s Santa Clara Sports Law Symposium and said he will join NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell this weekend at a meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington rather that fly to Ohio to take part in the ceremony honoring the Browns’ 16 Hall of Fame members.
The RINO hunt is back on and the coveted trophy is Scott Brown.
Inevitably and predictably, the new senator from Massachusetts — Mr. 41, Mr. I-Drive-A-Truck, tea party poster dude — has disappointed his base by, alas, representing his constituents.
Riding around Massachusetts in his pickup truck, Scott Brown hit a home run when he insisted: “This is not a Kennedy seat or a Democratic seat. It’s the people’s seat.” For a while, I thought Thomas Jefferson’s prophecy might be coming true:
“Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government. ... Whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, the people, if well informed, may be relied on to set them to rights.”

In his first comment following Scott Brown’s stunning victory in the Massachusetts special election to fill the seat of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, President Barack Obama told the losing candidate, Martha Coakley, “you can’t win them all.” No, but President Obama hasn’t won any since his own election more than 15 months ago (not counting the Nobel Peace Prize, which was an unearned gift). Three candidates he campaigned for in New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts lost, and his personal appeal for Chicago to host the Olympics in 2016 was rejected. That’s 0-4. If he were a quarterback, the coach would be eyeing the backup right about now.

In an epic upset in liberal Massachusetts, Republican Scott Brown rode a wave of voter anger to win the U.S. Senate seat held by the late Edward M. Kennedy for nearly half a century, leaving President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul in doubt and marring the end of his first year in office.

A mocker resents correction; he will not consult the wise.” (Proverbs 15:12)
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has taken the route of many who would rather call names than have a serious debate about “climate change.” He characterizes those who question “settled science” members of the “flat-earth” society. When people resort to name-calling it is a sign they have lost an argument.

Ronnie Brown’s season has ended with an injury — again.
The Miami Dolphins’ leading rusher was placed on injured reserve Wednesday because of a right foot injury suffered in Sunday’s victory over Tampa Bay.
A fifth-year pro, Brown missed the final nine games of the 2007 season with a right knee injury.
