Entries are being sought for the 2012 North Dakota Make It With Wool contest. The contest will be held Aug. 11 at Rheault Farm, Fargo, and will be held in conjunction with the Fargo Park District Fiber Arts Festival.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation has selected the winners of the 2012 ND Teen Drivers Traffic Safety Contest. Tyler Parker, Calla Price and Marvin Schmitt of Hazen are first-place winners in the video category, and Kylen Mayer of Bismarck is the first-place recipient for the billboard design category.
Fifty-four high school students from eight North Dakota high schools will compete in the annual “LifeSmarts” state finals today, according to Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem. The state competition, which is in its 15th year, tests teens in grades 9-12 about personal finance, health and safety, the environment, technology, and consumer rights and responsibilities. The Attorney General’s Office hosts the annual event.
On Nov. 16, Reader’s Digest kicked off its second annual We Hear You America campaign, in which towns across the U.S. can compete to win funds and promotional support, including a grant of up to $50,000 for community projects. Larimore and Lakota residents have already started logging on in droves to vote for their town and could have a shot at winning the grand prize.
After country music singer Craig Campbell wrote the hit song “Family Man,” he learned from the response he got on Facebook and Twitter that there were a lot of other fathers across the country who cared about their families the way he did.

Ernest DeNault Robertson American Legion Post 14 will be host to the Region 4 oratorical contest at City Hall in Jamestown, at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The public is invited to attend.
High school students under age 20 are eligible. Competition begins at the post level and advances to a state competition. Legion department representatives certify one winner per state to the national contest, where department winners compete against each other in two speaking rounds. The contest caps off with a final round that decides the three top finishers.
For 30 years, deer hunters of the Jamestown area have measured their prize buck against the rest by weighing in at Gun and Real Sports. The top prize for the contest this year is a special rifle, according to Craig Woodward, vice president of Gun & Reel.
Woodward, a fixture at the store for 39 years, remembers the first contest back in 1980.
