Students compete in ‘LifeSmarts’ contest
Fifty-four high school students from eight North Dakota high schools will compete in the annual “LifeSmarts” state finals today, according to Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem. The state competition, which is in its 15th year, tests teens in grades 9-12 about personal finance, health and safety, the environment, technology, and consumer rights and responsibilities. Oratorical contest on Wednesday
Ernest DeNault Robertson American Legion Post 14 will be host to the Region 4 oratorical contest at City Hall in Jamestown, at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The public is invited to attend. High school students under age 20 are eligible. Competition begins at the post level and advances to a state competition. Legion department representatives certify one winner per state to the national contest, where department winners compete against each other in two speaking rounds. For 30 years, deer hunters of the Jamestown area have measured their prize buck against the rest by weighing in at Gun and Real Sports. The top prize for the contest this year is a special rifle, according to Craig Woodward, vice president of Gun & Reel.
