Well ... What is left to say about Old Highway 10 that hasn’t already been said? Not much, however, keep this in mind: We know how that road was taken care of as a “highway.” Can we imagine what it’s going to be like as gravel? It will need more care than just once a summer. I have driven this road for almost 30 years and about all that gets done is to patch a few holes. Heck, we don’t even get the lines painted down the center anymore.
Thirty-four years old, the road surface on Stutsman County Road 40 (Old Highway 10) east of Jamestown through Spiritwood to the Barnes County line was last given a maintenance overlay in 1976. And the Stutsman County Commission wants everyone to believe that in those 34 years, they’ve never had the funding to chip seal or give it another maintenance overlay! As Laurie Mosolf wrote in her letter to the editor, “it’s neglect.”
