In a response to the NCAA’s motion to dismiss the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe’s federal lawsuit over the Fighting Sioux nickname, the tribe’s attorney relies heavily on the contested 1969 “naming ceremony” that allegedly gave the University of North Dakota the right to use the Sioux name.

Shoulder injury sidelines UND’s Rodwell 
University of North Dakota hockey forward Derek Rodwell will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.
Head coach Dave Hakstol says Rodwell hurt the shoulder in a Dec. 30 game against Harvard and will have surgery later this month.

Fargodome, Alerus Center both getting new turf 
The Gate City Bank will pay $1 million to have its name displayed on a newly installed artificial turf field at the Fargodome.
Both the Fargodome and the Alerus Center, in Grand Forks, are replacing their indoor artificial turf fields next year. North Dakota State University plays its home football games at the dome, while the University of North Dakota plays at the Alerus.
