It was a tough start to the week for many air travelers. Flight delays piled up all along the East Coast Monday as thousands of air traffic controllers were forced to take an unpaid day off because of federal budget cuts.

American Airlines played catch-up Wednesday, resuming most flights and even adding a handful that weren't on the schedule to help passengers stranded by a massive technology failure that grounded the carrier's entire U.S. fleet a day earlier.
United Airlines cut the grounded Boeing 787 from its flying plans at least until June and postponed its new Denver-to-Tokyo flights on Thursday, as airlines continued to tear up their schedules while the plane is out of service.
The number of travelers boarding airplanes at North Dakota’s eight commercial airports soared to a record-breaking 1.02 million in 2012.
While Fargo’s Hector International Airport saw a record 364,727 passengers, the largest gains were reported in Minot and Williston.
Minot International Airport had 224,421 boardings, up 49 percent, and Williston’s Sloulin Field International Airport had 37,508 boardings, up 35 percent from 2011.
