JERUSALEM — Software developed by an Israeli team is giving intriguing new hints about what researchers believe to be the multiple hands that wrote the Bible.
The new software analyzes style and word choices to distinguish parts of a single text written by different authors, and when applied to the Bible its algorithm teased out distinct writerly voices in the holy book.

The Rev. Tom Eckstein’s Thursday morning men’s Bible class will not meet on Thanksgiving Day. The class will resume the next Thursday, Dec. 2.
The class meets from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. most Thursdays at Meeting Grounds coffee shop, 613 10th St. S.E.
Temple Baptist Church, 1545 Fourth Ave. N.W., is hosting a “Walk Thru the New Testament” seminar on Oct. 10. Dr. Bill Marty, professor of Bible at Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, will lead the seminar. Session one begins during worship (either 8:30 or 10:45 a.m.). People are encouraged to bring a bag lunch. Session two is from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per person if registered and paid by Oct. 4 (The cost is $25/person after Oct. 4.).
On Thursday, the Rev. Tom Eckstein will begin a study of The Book of Revelation at his men’s morning Bible class. This class meets from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. every Thursday at Meeting Grounds coffee shop.
All men are welcome.
Red Willow Bible Camp, Binford, N.D., is holding its 23rd Annual Quilt and Fine Art Auction on Sept. 11.
The activities begin at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer breakfast led by the Rev. Linda Schauer of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle.

Forty-five years ago, after reading a $20 book on “how to” of theatrical make-up and costuming, the Rev. Jack Strom transformed himself into the innkeeper who 2,000 years ago denied Joseph and his pregnant wife, Mary, a night’s lodging.
For the next four weeks the Arts Center has a most unusual exhibit — prints and copies of the St. John’s Bible.
It’s a completely handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned by the Benedictine monks at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn. The original of the St. John’s Bible is seven volumes and 2 feet tall by 3 feet wide when open. It’s made of calfskin vellum, with 160 illuminations, and cost $4 million to produce. The scriptorium of the St. John’s Bible is in Wales.
