This year’s run honors four fallen soldiers. One is Spc. Phillip Brown, from Jamestown, who died May 8, 2004, after suffering wounds from a roadside bomb.

American Bikers Aiming Toward Education of North Dakota is holding Thunder in the Valley, a family motorcycle rally to raise awareness and money for hospice, in the Sheyenne River Valley at the Fort Ransom rodeo grounds Aug. 14-16.
Baby boomers rumbling through South Dakota now outnumber their younger motorcycle comrades, shrugging off sports cars in search of motorized freedom. But they also account for the most accidents.
That’s why safety groups are trying to persuade biker boomers to wear helmets and protective clothing as they roll into the Black Hills for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The weeklong event that attracted more than 400,000 people last year begins today.

The Anne Carlsen Center had a visit Saturday from Al Martell dressed as Santa during the 11th annual Christmas in July event organized by the area Individuals and Ladies Individuals Motorcycle Clubs. The men credited the women for putting on the event, but Penny Lee, president of the Ladies Individuals, said, “We all work together.”
