FARGO — After three years and raising $3.7 million, the Northern Lights Council of the Boy Scouts of America broke ground here on Thursday for the Jon L. Wanzek Center for Scouting.
“This is truly an exciting time for us,” said Steve McLister, Northern Lights Council president. “The board decided that we had reached that magic number, and it was time to start letting everyone know we’re here and ready to move forward.”

The Northern Lights Council of the Boy Scouts of America is telling the public to be prepared: A new center for Scouting will soon be going up in Fargo.
The $4 million, 14,000-square-foot center will include training space for the council’s 4,000 leadership volunteers, and a store offering Scouting uniforms and supplies.

Black Hills and Meyer spruce now landscape the lawn just east of town, and as they grow, the trees will block snow and winds as well.
About a dozen members of Boy Scout Troop 163 planted 265 spruce trees as well as aromatic sumac shrubs near Jamestown’s waste water treatment plant as part of 14-year-old Grant Curtis’ Eagle Scout project.
Youth and adult members of the Boy Scouts of American from 10 surrounding counties will converge at this year’s Scout Show, planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Buffalo Mall. The Scouts will have a variety of displays and share with the community a little about their experience in Scouting and what Scouting offers. Each group will host a display with some hands-on activities or demonstrations.
A news brief in Wednesday’s Sun on page A6 did not include the date for a Boy Scout spaghetti dinner fundraiser.
The fundraiser for Boy Scout Troop 163 is scheduled from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Knights of Columbus. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for age 12 and under, and $20 for a family. For tickets or more information, call 952-1023.
