Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi says he’ll offer a contract extension to Gophers football coach Tim Brewster.
Maturi wouldn’t say how long the extension will be or discuss terms. Nor would he speculate Sunday on when they’ll wrap up negotiations. He says he and Brewster have already been talking, but that university attorneys need to work out the details with Brewster’s agent.
After a humbling first season as Minnesota’s coach, Tim Brewster’s talk was still big and bold.
That 1-11 finish, with a three-overtime win at home against Miami of Ohio, made it harder for Brewster to sell hope with the same fervor he’d been peddling it since his hire months earlier.
The subject of a star recruit’s uncertain status with the team brought terse comments from Minnesota coach Tim Brewster, but the Gophers maintained MarQueis Gray’s absence won’t distract from Saturday’s season opener.
Tim Brewster is still talking big. He’s banking on an influx of heavily recruited freshmen and junior college transfers to back him up.
After a 1-11 debut season — the only victory came over Miami of Ohio in three overtimes — Brewster has a lot of work to do.
Minnesota football coach Tim Brewster’s son has decided to leave the program. Quarterback Clint Brewster will transfer to another school after redshirting his freshman season.
Included in a Tuesday afternoon announcement of the news by the Gophers was a prepared statement from the coach. Tim Brewster says, “I respect and admire Clint’s decision to further his education and play football elsewhere.”
