Transportation officials have reopened a portion of a major highway in western North Dakota’s oil patch to one-lane traffic.
The Long X Bridge along U.S. Highway 85 about 14 miles south of Watford City was struck and damaged by an excavator being hauled on a trailer towed by a truck. The highway was closed Sunday night.

The toll bridge between Fargo and Moorhead remains under water, but even after the flood recedes the span may stay closed.
The president of Bridge Co., which owns and operates the structure, says unless Moorhead agrees to a five-year extension of the operating agreement between Moorhead, Fargo and Bridge Co., he will leave the bridge closed.

The old Drayton Bridge went “kaboom” this morning.
The bridge, which connects N.D. Highway 66 with Minnesota Highway 11 over the Red River east of Drayton, N.D., was imploded shortly after 8 a.m.
The old bridge, which often was threatened by flooding, was replaced last fall with a 4,090-foot-long bridge that is considered the second longest in North Dakota. The Four Bears Bridge over Lake Sakakawea near Fort Berthold, N.D., is about 400 feet longer.

RURAL THOMPSON, N.D. — The old Thompson Bridge was imploded Friday morning.
The Red River bridge, which connects Grand Forks County Road 7 with Polk County State Aid Highway 9, was replaced by a $7.2 million bridge in early October.
The bridge, located about 15 miles southeast of Grand Forks, carried about 1,100 vehicles a day.

GRAND FORKS (AP) — A Red River bridge connecting Grand Forks with its Minnesota neighbor of East Grand Forks is being shut down again.
The Point Bridge was closed for an extended period last spring because of flooding. Starting Tuesday, it will be closed again, this time for roadwork.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating the restoration of the Elks City Park Footbridge, will be held at 2 p.m. Today, by the Rosebud Visitors Center in Valley City. The restoration of the historic truss bridge includes safety upgrades and returning it to the original color. The cost of the project was approximately $430,000 and was funded in partnership with Valley City and the North Dakota Department of Transportation Transportation Enhancement Funds.
