Leaders in Casselton, N.D., are looking to voters for a clear signal next week on a plan to silence train whistles through the city.
The proposal calls for using 75 percent of the revenue from Casselton’s 1 percent city sales tax to fund a majority of the $1.2 million railroad quiet zone.

A new distillery has opened in southeast North Dakota.
Maple River Distillery, Casselton, N.D., is co-owned by Greg and Susan Kempel, who also own the Maple River Winery that was established there seven years ago.
Authorities say a truck spilled a load of wet distillers grain on an eastbound section of Interstate 94 about 20 miles west of Fargo, causing a slippery stretch that sent vehicles out of control and left three people hospitalized.
Bread for the World Regional Director Tammy Walhof will lead an ecumenical Hunger and Justice Roundtable Discussion at Martin’s Lutheran Church in Casselton, N.D., at 10 a.m. Saturday, sponsored by the Eastern North Dakota’s ELCA Synod Hunger and Justice Committee.
