A federal appeals court has rejected the appeal of a man sentenced to 30 years in prison in a child sex case that prosecutors said involved about 1 million computer images of pornography.
Steven Cartier of Oberon pleaded guilty in April last year but reserved the right to appeal U.S. District Judge Rodney Webb’s ruling on evidence in the case.
A Mandan woman faces a felony child abuse charge after witnesses told authorities she endangered her baby on a city street.
Twenty-five-year-old Pamela Seidel is accused of being drunk when she pulled a car seat carrying the baby down the street, using a dog leash.
Police say cars had to swerve to avoid hitting the car seat, which was black and barely visible in the dark.
Once again in 2008, April has been designated as Child Abuse Prevention Month by a governor’s proclamation calling attention to the continuing atrocity of child abuse. Gov. John Hoeven’s proclamation points out that “approximately 7,000 children are reported abused and neglected in this state each year.” A terrible acknowledgement for a state that claims to put children first.
Police say a woman has been arrested here on a charge of cruelty to one of her children in Georgia.
Angela Liggins, 35, called police Monday night to report that her 10-year old son had just returned home after three days, and said she wanted him cited for being an unruly child, Police Sgt. Dwight Offerman said.
