Heidi Senum, 39, owner and operator of a home-based day care, was charged Friday with malicious punishment of a child in state district court in Thief River Falls.
The North Dakota Department of Human Services’ Developmental Disabilities Division will host public meeting via video conference to gather public comment on its policy, which addresses services for children from birth through age 2 with developmental disabilities or delays and their families at 6:30 p.m. March 14 and at 7 p.m. March 19.

A man hired in mid-August by the Spirit Lake Tribe to restore its embattled social services department says he will not continue as director after the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs takes over on Oct. 1.
Correspondence obtained by Forum Communications between the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Spirit Lake Tribe over the past six months shows the federal agency persistently urging the tribe to fix serious problems in its management of Tribal Social Services.

Spirit Lake officials met here Monday with a “strike team” of U.S. Interior Department officials, hoping to reassure the director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and others that they are making progress on improving the tribe’s embattled social services department.
Tribal chairman Roger Yankton said that he and other tribal leaders “are reassuring them that we’re working on this.”
