The county will remain broken into five districts, each with a commissioner serving from an area within Cass.

HILLSBORO, N.D. (AP) — Traill County has its first female county commissioner.
The Grand Forks Herald reported that Gail Mooney of Cummings defeated incumbent Commissioner Ron Peterson of Buxton on Tuesday by a vote of 263 to 216.
Fellow county commissioners are remembering Doug Kaiser as a dedicated official with a special interest in the roads of Stutsman County.
Kaiser, 66, died Thursday under hospice care in Jamestown.
“He was extremely dedicated and a hard worker,” said Mark Klose, chairman of the commission. “He put in 100 percent all the time.”
BISMARCK — A Bismarck attorney will serve as North Dakota’s next labor commissioner.
Gov. John Hoeven announced Thursday that Tony Weiler will begin his duties Sept. 7. Weiler, 40, will replace Lisa Fair McEvers, who has served in the position for five years. In May, Hoeven appointed her to serve on the East Central Judicial District Court in Fargo.

BISMARCK — Secretary of State Al Jaeger’s paperwork mistake shouldn’t keep a Libertarian candidate for the state Public Service Commission off the November ballot, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said Thursday.
Stenehjem declined a request from state Sen. John Warner, D-Ryder, for a formal legal opinion on the issue, saying he had already given Jaeger the advice he needed to resolve the problem.

In North Dakota, Public Service Commissioner and candidate Kevin Cramer let politics color his judgment in his description of his political foe.
Brad Crabtree, Cramer’s Democratic opponent, is North Dakota’s “scariest left-wing” activist, Cramer said at the GOP convention.
In fact, Crabtree is “the most left-wing, extreme environmentalist I know,” Cramer continued.
State Rep. Merle Boucher, D-Rolette, will seek the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party’s endorsement today to challenge incumbent Doug Goehring in the agriculture commissioner race, he announced Thursday.
Boucher has represented Rolette County in the state House for five terms, first elected in 1990. He’s been the House minority leader for 14 years.
“After 20 years serving in the North Dakota House of Representatives, I am excited to be taking the next step and launching my campaign for agriculture commissioner,” he said in a written statement.

Fargo state Rep. Jasper Schneider has resigned from the North Dakota House.
The 30-year-old Democrat recently was appointed as North Dakota’s director for the federal Agriculture Department’s Rural Development agency.
