Stocks fell in afternoon trading Wednesday on news that several Federal Reserve policymakers in a meeting earlier this month favored cutting back on stimulus programs as early as June if the economy continued to improve.
The lawyers who defend the nation's poor in federal courts across the country are grappling with budget cuts they say will decimate their offices, delay criminal cases and jeopardize the fairness of the criminal justice system.

For years, courts in the least populated counties have received more state funding per capita than larger counties. But on Thursday State Court Administrator Sue Dosal told the Senate Judiciary Budget Division that is ending.

It is ineffable to me that a little noise at a Jamestown Public School Board meeting can draw so much attention from others. I’m referring to The Jamestown Sun editorial regarding sports cutting, Blue Jay News, etc.
Seventy-four point seven percent of the Jamestown Sun online readers believe cutting prepares students for adult life … then we should cut in grade school and maybe even in preschool. Let’s really prepare these kids for what’s coming … life. Better yet let’s not have sports at all, then we can protect our children from the political drama and negative fallout that can happen in some sports.
Several parents concerned about cutting students from athletic programs attended the Jamestown Public School Board’s regular meeting Monday.
Parents Margo Haut and Shelly Jystad approached the board at the meeting as well as at a previous meeting. Students need opportunities to get involved, they said.
Microsoft said Friday its revenue kept falling and its net income dropped 18 percent in the last quarter, partly due to the hesitation of businesses, which are more profitable for the company than consumers are.
North Dakota Republican lawmakers said they intended to support tax legislation that blends property and income tax cuts, despite Democratic arguments that the two tax issues should stand on their own.

Montana-Dakota Utilities is cutting its appliance service, a move that will leave about 50 service workers jobless.
MDU has offered a service plan that covers a variety of gas and electric appliances. The new plan starting next year will cover water heaters and furnaces only, spokesman Mark Hanson said.
