The combination of a smash-mouth running game and a stingy defense brought Hillsboro its first state football title of the modern era on Friday.
The Burros rushed for 377 yards, and limited top-ranked Williams County to 151 total yards en route to a convincing 46-8 victory in the North Dakota 9-man championship game at the Alerus Center.

It’s nearly impossible to overlook a defending state champion deep into the playoffs, but after the season the Velva Aggies put together not many were really expecting what unfolded in Minot last Saturday.
The surprise wasn’t because the defending state Class A football champion Harvey Hornets defeated the No. 1-ranked Aggies in their semifinal matchup. It was the complete dominance that Harvey demonstrated against the previously unbeaten team in a 27-0 blowout that raised some eyebrows.
