Donations at the Salvation Army kettles were down this holiday season, according to Lt. Mitch Brecto of the Jamestown Salvation Army. The organization is hoping other forms of donations will help cover the shortfall.

Citing a “big need” this year, Fargo-Moorhead leaders called on the community Tuesday to get into the Christmas spirit by donating food, money and gifts for children in need, as well as for adults with special needs.
Santa and Mrs. Claus were joined at the Fargo Park District’s Santa Village by Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker and Moorhead Mayor Mark Voxland, who read a proclamation on behalf of the four metro mayors to kick off the “Season of Giving.”

More than a month after a series of earthquakes devastated the poorest nation in the western hemisphere, killing hundreds of thousands and leaving much of the capital city in ruins, area donations are still steady for Haiti relief.
Jamestown Hospital Foundation was selected by Dakota Medical Foundation to participate in the 2010 Giving Hearts Day, a 24-hour online fundraising event that will be held Thursday. All contributions of $10 or more will be matched by DMF up to a maximum of $4,000.
