When the Edgeley Coffee Shop closed its doors to the public at the end of June it left a void in this rural farming community.
It only took a week before that void was filled. Gene Hanson and his wife, Darlene, who own an empty building across the street, decided to serve up free coffee.
EDGELEY, N.D. — It wasn’t the most traditional of circumstances that brought Jim and Sue Stiles to North Dakota, but nonetheless this retired couple plans to call the state their home for many years to come.

The Edgeley Fire Department was busy on Wednesday after two grass fires broke out in a span of an hour, according to fire chief Steve Powers.
The first fire happened around 3 p.m. six miles north and one mile east of Edgeley. The second fire happened around 4 p.m. 12 miles north and five and a half miles east of Edgeley. Both happened in fields.
If children in Edgeley wanted to go for a swim this past summer, all their options required going to another town. The local park board even sent busloads of children to other towns to swim in their pools twice a week.
