Letter to the editor: Allow nursing homes to add more beds in North Dakota
Senate Bill 2044 would extend the moratorium on nursing home beds to the year 2013. The moratorium essentially limits the number of licensed skilled and basic care beds available to nursing home facilities. The moratorium was enacted in 1996 and designed to keep the number of licensed beds at the 1996 level because it was deemed there were too many unused beds in the rural areas of the state.By Carol A. 80-year-old falls victim to scam
Devils Lake police say an 80-year old woman is likely out more than $15,000 after falling victim to a sweepstakes scam. Police say the woman got a fake letter this month that claimed to be from a publishing company with a Canadian stamp on it, saying she won $250,000. She was told that to claim the prize, she must send money to another country to cover various fees.December 12, 2008
