Northern Plains Electric Cooperative crews were called out at 2:30 a.m. Thursday as high winds and snow swept the Woodworth, N.D., area, downing 21 poles and causing power outages to 30 Northern Plains members. Crews were called in from Woodworth-Robinson, Cando, Carrington, Jamestown, Maddock and Rugby. By mid afternoon Thursday, they had restored power to all but 13 members.
Construction is beginning this week on Minnkota Power Cooperative’s $312 million, 250-mile Center-to-Grand Forks transmission line.
Construction work began Tuesday near Binford, N.D., in Griggs County, with crews working both east and west.

State regulators approved plans Thursday for a $202 million power line that will run for dozens of miles through western Wisconsin’s bluff and river country, saying the project will improve regional and local transmission reliability.
