Enrollment for the entire North Dakota University System grew modestly this fall, though the number of full-time students decreased slightly, according to data released Friday by the system office in Bismarck.

Valley City State University announced Tuesday that the first day total headcount was 1,312 students, a 10.3 percent increase over 2010 first day headcount of 1,190. First day new student headcount at VCSU is 324, a 5.2 percent increase over last year.
Minot State University officials are preparing for a 10 percent drop in enrollment this fall, after record Souris River flooding in the city this summer. They also are preparing for housing and parking crunches despite the fewer students.
Enrollment numbers for North Dakota’s college and university campuses confirm that the University System is an education and financial bargain. Campuses large and small posted nice gains for the spring semester, according to reports released last week.
North Dakota State University continued to occupy the top spot for student numbers with 13,411 students a record. The gain is a 6.8 percent increase over last year’s spring total.
Bismarck State College is reporting a record spring enrollment for the third straight year.
School officials said 3,899 students are enrolled this semester, an increase of almost 9 percent from last spring.
BSC’s fall enrollment also was a record, at 4,020 students.
